Baby Loss Awareness Week – Light Up Pink and Blue

Each October, landmarks and homes across the UK light up in pink and blue to show support for Baby Loss Awareness Week (BLAW). It’s a powerful way to remember babies who have died, raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss, and let families know they are not alone.
Here’s how you can get involved:

1. Consider Your Local Landmarks
Many public buildings that are lit up at night already have the infrastructure in place. These could include:

  • Town halls, libraries, or museums
  • Shopping centres or hospitals
  • Sporting stadiums or other public spaces
  • Local lighthouses, beacons — even your own home’s outside lighting

If it can shine pink and blue, it can be part of BLAW.

2. Find Out Who to Contact
Identify the right person to approach and ask about lighting up a building or landmark. This might be through a website, by phone, or via social media.

  • Call the relevant department to request permission
  • Use our template enquiry (available on our website) to help with emails, letters, or phone calls
  • Social media can also be a quick and effective way to connect

3. Let Us Know When You Get a “Yes!”
If a building or landmark agrees to take part, please let us know by completing our short online form. This helps us coordinate activities across the UK.
⚠️ Some buildings have deadlines for lighting requests — so don’t delay. If it’s too late this year, you can always ask them to support us next time.

4. Share on Social Media
Once your landmark is confirmed, spread the word:

  • Share the news on your social media accounts
  • Tag the building or organisation — many will be happy to post about it too
  • Inform your local press using our template press release (customise it for your area)
  • Display our Pink and Blue Poster in your window, noticeboard, or on screens to explain why the landmark is lit this October

Other Ways to Turn Pink and Blue

Even if you can’t light up a building, there are still many meaningful ways to take part in Baby Loss Awareness Week:

  • Wear pink and blue – Order a BLAW pin badge or charm
  • Light up your home – Use tissue paper, candles, or window clings (tutorials available online)
  • Turn your social media pink and blue – Download special profile pictures and banners
  • Get creative – Bake cakes, create art, dye your hair — whatever inspires you

Together, these small acts help raise awareness, spark conversations, and show families that their babies are remembered.
